Catastrophe returned last night and had everyone Googling 'fat Johnny Depp'

A Second Captains t-shirt was also involved in a rather cringey scene. (Spoilers inside.)

HOW DID WE GO so long without new episodes of Catastrophe?

The award-winning comedy, written by and starring Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, finally returned to Channel 4 last night after a year-long absence.

As always, if you don’t want spoilers, do not progress beyond this point:

The second season ended with Rob finding a receipt for the morning-after pill, confirming his suspicion that wife Sharon had cheated on him.

Last night, they picked straight up from that cliffhanger – the episode was packed with brilliant quips, but one in particular captured the hearts and minds of the audience.

During a fight about Sharon’s infidelity, Rob confesses to searching her browser history to look for proof she was up to something:

It’s primarily black guys and fat Johnny Depps. I can’t compete with that.

Everyone immediately started wondering (and Googling) what a ‘fat Johnny Depp’ might look like.

And yes, people really were looking it up – Google Trends shows a significant spike in searches for ‘fat Johnny Depp’ in the UK last night. Ah, excellent.

The new episode also saw the return of Sharon’s Second Captains t-shirt, worn so memorably in season one (her brother, Mark, produces the sports show).

This time, however, it appeared in a scene where Sharon has an, erm, lady w*nk:

Mark’s taking it on the chin.

All in all, a hugely enjoyable episode that bodes well for what’s to come. Bring it on.
